Monument Glamping began the summer of 2019 when we remodeled our bedroom. We built a platform, set up our hunting tent, and moved our master bedroom outdoors. What a magical time we had that month! During the remodel, a desire grew in our hearts to share the experience with others. We placed our tent on Airbnb to see how it would go. We hosted 45 people the rest of that summer.
So in Year 2 we added another tent. We raised the rent a little and tripled our earnings. We knew we were onto something! We didn’t yet retire our full time jobs or shift our lives much, giving one more year a try. In Year 3 we added a third tent and three container homes, making our property a busy glamping operation. We continued to full capacity and we had a great time greeting people of all backgrounds.
Little brings us more satisfaction than to witness people relish glamping on our property. We have much to share with visitors — a flowing creek, trails, sunrise in the morning and moonrise in the evening — and we love seeing visitors relax and enjoy. Civilization is just minutes away, and the wild of Pike National Forest is just a couple miles from our sites.
During our pilot run we have become members of the American Glamping Association, invested in numerous courses on glamping, and have become leaders in the glamping community in America and abroad. We are becoming experts in outdoor and semi-outdoor hospitality, providing a premium experience for staycationers from Colorado Springs and Denver metro areas, as well as vacations from all over the country and the world.
We are applying for a special use permit with El Paso County to bring this pilot to launch, one that we believe will last several years and add to the character of El Paso County. We believe Monument Glamping will add to the greater Master Plan, complement our neighborhood, position nicely into the surrounding habitat, and comply with all County rules, regulations and ordinances.
