“Hello! My name is [your name] and I live at [street address]. Please include this letter in the review file for the Planning Commission and Board of County Commissioners. My support comes for the following reasons…”
Who We Are

We are Chris and Wendy Jeub, owners of Monument Glamping. We provide outdoor accommodations to travelers and staycationers on our 6.44 acres on Monument Creek. We’ve captured the attention of the Colorado Springs Gazette, the Tribune, Monument Living and Palmer Ridge Magazines, and local television stations. We are proud to offer outdoor accommodations to so many people and bring them closer to the outdoors in our beautiful county.
What We’re Applying For
We received our Special Use Permit in 2022 to allow us to host glamping on our property, and today we are asking for a Modification to the special use. Here’s a summary of our submittal to the county:
- We are requesting more latitude as to the types of units allowed on the property, better and more expensive than the tents we currently have.
- We also would like to develop our property to include more screening and landscaping, as requested by neighbors.Â
- To cover these developments we are asking to increase our units from 8 to 12.Â
- Our request has passed all the requirements from county, state and federal agencies.
Our property runs along the edge of our Pine Hills subdivision on the lightly traveled Rickenbacker Ave, a perfect transitional property for glamping. Our typical guests are couples escaping Colorado Springs or Denver, or they are vacationers visiting our beautiful county. We love being hosts and opening our land to our hospitality business, Monument Glamping.
Our “Letter of Intent” (Official Public Document)
This application requires inspections and reviews from several government agencies. Much of our application is summed up in our Letter of Intent, a public document officially submitted to El Paso County Planning Department. Here is our Letter of Intent that explains how our application fits the Master Plan of the county and is a welcomed development on our particular district:
Our Application Journey
December 14, 2023: Our Neighborhood Meeting
Applying for this special use modification has been a long, expensive journey, but to us it’s worth it! In December, I (Chris) hosted this online meeting with neighbors that explained in detail my development and directly addressed opposition points that had come in thus far. It’s an hour long, but you’ll learn a lot about our operation and hear from a couple other neighbors!
March 10, 2024: Adjustment for an Increase of Venues
After a year of working with neighbors and the county on this modification, we asked for an increase from 8 to 12 venues. All changes of infrastructure have been approved by county, state and federal agencies. This increase was necessary to offset the screening and landscaping requirements my neighbor was demanding, as well as offset the legal costs of this drawn-out process.
June 6, 2024: Planning Commission Meeting
With extreme sadness, the Planning Commission on June 6 voted “disapproval” on a 7-2 decision. However, we are still hopeful that the Board of County Commissioners will vote approval on June 27.
(Upcoming) June 27, 2024: Board of County Commissioners
The Board of County Commissioners will receive deliberation for Monument Glamping 1 on July 27, 2024. The Jeub family and their lawyers are prepared to make the case that this submission is in correlation with the county Master Plan and meets all seven of the criteria set forth by this body. The agenda may be downloaded here. Supporters are encouraged to attend:
