There’s a new resident in Palmer Lake, and he’s eight feet tall, made of forged metal, and lives under a bridge.
This afternoon, the town gathered for “Awake the Troll,” the official unveiling of a public art sculpture created by Monument metal artist Jodi Bliss of Bliss Studio & Gallery. After more than a year of work, including blacksmithing and community members leaving their own marks on the piece, the troll now sits beneath the pedestrian bridge near the Palmer Lake Trail. The crowd counted him awake, and then “sTrolled” over to Joe Mama’s for cornhole, troll cookies, music, and a courtyard full of families enjoying a perfect Colorado afternoon.
We drove over from Monument Glamping to be part of it, and it was a reminder of something we tell our guests all the time: the magic of staying here isn’t only on our property. It’s everything around it.
Monument Glamping sits on six private acres with Monument Creek running through it, just minutes from Palmer Lake. When you stay with us, you get your own safari tent or container home with a real bed, a private hot tub, a fire pit, and a creekside deck. You don’t pack camping gear. You don’t fight for space at a crowded campground. You just show up.
And then you have an entire region to explore. The Palmer Lake Trail and its new troll. The lake itself. Local trails, small-town restaurants, art, and community events that pop up all summer long. Our guests consistently tell us the best part of their stay was the balance: total privacy and quiet at home base, with a charming mountain community right down the road whenever they want it.
The Palmer Lake troll is a great example of what makes this area special. It wasn’t built by a big corporation or shipped in from somewhere else. It was made by a local artist, with help from local hands, for the sole purpose of bringing a little joy and discovery to the people who live and visit here. That’s the spirit of the whole Tri-Lakes region, and it’s the spirit we try to bring to every stay.
If you’ve been looking for a Colorado getaway that gives you both peace and a sense of place, this is it. Come relax by the creek, soak in your private hot tub under the stars, and spend an afternoon discovering a troll under a bridge.
